I’m Rose Dodgson and I am currently studying the HNC Working with communities.
Becoming a welfare student officer would give me an opportunity to practice what I’ve learnt on my HNC. I am currently a class rep and I would welcome the chance to help Edinburgh College's student community with their studies.
I am hoping to work with Edinburgh College Students' Association to improve the facilities and student support that students can currently access in order to make sure that all students have the best learning experience possible whilst studying at Edinburgh College!
I am bilingual in French and English and have studied abroad. So I know how daunting it can be to move to a new place and study in a different language. With Brexit, many students will feel more concerned about their future in Scotland so I would like to make sure that all students are well informed and supported during this time.
I hope to use my experiences to help get support for any student who needs support, be it financial, learning support or tackling discrimination whilst attending the college.
I will hold regular drop-in surgeries at all campuses where you can raise your concern in person and in confidence.
I would also seek to hold regular “awareness” events promoting different organizations or college facilities regarding student welfare.
Ultimately, I would do everything I can to ensure that all students have a wonderful learning experience at college and enjoy college life!
