Be the next full-time student officer!

Hello and welcome back to our news letter! We’ve had lots of exciting stuff happening and even more coming up in the next few weeks.

From elections prep and LGBTQ+ History month, there’s so much to tell you all about. This month I have been working on a series of posters released as part of LGBTQ+ history month and in promotion of our LGBTQ+ friendly classroom initiative and being inclusive at Edinburgh College.

We also have our International Women’s’ Day performance event up and coming on the 10th of March at our Granton campus. It’ll be packed full of performances from students, including dancing, singing and poetry. We hope you can join us for this celebration.

And lastly, don’t forget the Students’ Association elections are in a few weeks! Keep an eye out for your candidates and get ready to start voting in a couple of weeks time. But without further ado, enjoy our newsletter!

Are you our next President or Vice President?

EC Students’ Association is run by a team of elected students, also known as Full-Time Officers. Every year we run elections where students vote for a new team, and that’s why we need you! If you are passionate about improving things for students at Edinburgh College, we would love you to put yourself forward to be our new President, Vice President Welfare and Vice President Activities.

This is a full time role which is paid £25,472 for 35-hours a week. If you get elected, you'll be working a small and supportive team of staff who run events, activities, advocate for change and enrich the lives of Edinburgh College students.

Nominations close this Monday 3rd March at 4pm

LGBT+ Friendly Classrooms

LGBT History Month is an important time of the year. Celebrating LGBTQ+ people from the past, events that have shaped todays world and looking to the future is what this month is for.

As part of having a successful LGBT History Month, myself and the college’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead Nina Munday, have been working on a series of posters to promote LGBTQ+ inclusion as part of the Students' Association's key objective of improving the experience of LGBTQ+ people in the college and in the classroom.

Prayer Rooms for Ramadan

Many of our students and employees will soon embark on their celebration of Ramadan, a holy month for Muslims when they refrain primarily from eating and drinking during the daylight hours. Ramadan is considered a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God, and practice self-sacrifice. This year, Ramadan begins on 1st March and ends on 31st March.

Ramadan is more than just fasting. It is also a time for increased prayer and self-reflection. During March, the college has increased its prayer facilities across our campuses to enable our students and employees to observe their faith during the college day.
