Charlie Whitson, Vice President Activities LGBTQ+ History Month - The Launch of Inclusive Classrooms Posters

LGBTQ+ History Month is an important time of the year. Celebrating LGBTQ+ people from the past, events that have shaped todays world and looking to the future is what this month is for.

As part of having a successful LGBTQ+ History Month, myself and the college’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead Nina Munday, have been working on a series of posters to promote LGBTQ+ inclusion as part of ECSA’s key objective of improving the experience of LGBTQ+ people in the college and in the classroom.

We have created 5 different versions of the posters, each on a slightly different topic but all promoting inclusion and respect of each other. Four of the posters have a QR code that links to the college’s Trans and Non-Binary Inclusion Policy, which few students know exists. This policy is designed to hold the college accountable to upholding the 2010 Equality Act and making sure Trans and Non-Binary are respected, welcome, safe and supported. It applies to all staff and students, as well as visitors and contractors, and provides guide lines for those supporting someone who is transitioning, whether they are transitioning in a binary or non-binary way.

One of the 5 posters has a QR code that links to the college’s wider Call It Out Campaign. This campaign has been set up for students and staff to report any hate and misogyny experienced or witnessed within the college. You will also soon be able to find these QR codes around the college campuses.

These posters are going to be display around each college campus and I intend to circulate these posters to members of staff who will be able to display them around their classrooms and departments.

So with that, I am excited to launch the Being Inclusive at Edinburgh College poster series!!
