Here's to the women!

Hi everyone, we have loads of fun events and a pretty important election coming up so take a look at our latest newsletter below to find out what's going on in your college community!

We've got our International Women's Day event at our Granton Campus next Tuesday (10th March) where we will be in the Hub doing flower arranging with anyone who wants to swing by, and offering free teas and coffees.

Tackling gender inequality benefits people of all genders, not just women. This international day is rooted in a fight for greater equality, improvement to reproductive rights, and to tackle gender-based violence - affecting women in the UK and around the world.

Join us for International Womens Day

Join us for a fun-filled day to celebrate and connect! We’ll have lots of games for everyone to get involved in, so bring your friends, your team spirit, and your smiles for Giant Jenga, Giant Connect 4 and many more of our popular games!

Students should vote for me because I will be a strong, approachable, and proactive voice for everyone at Edinburgh College. I will listen carefully, communicate clearly, and turn your feedback into real action. With experience in project management and problem-solving, I know how to deliver results. I will advocate for more stable timetables, flexible learning, and better access to financial support.

I’ve been a teacher, an activist, and a leader, I now want to use those skills to be your Student President.

When university didn’t work out for me, I thought that higher education was simply out of reach. College re-instilled my confidence and belief in myself. I understand how important college is.

I don’t have all the answers, but I assure you if elected, I will spend every day fighting for you. I want to be part of making a change. You can be part of that change too; that’s why I am asking for your vote in these elections.

Jed Miller

I started on the Adult Returners programme a year ago and now study Community Involvement. My success is due to passionate and supportive lecturers, but management’s administrative barriers threaten that progress. With college funding cut by 20% since 2021, we need a President who knows that education is a lifeline.

Having overcome homelessness and after several years in recovery, I have the grit and determination to hold management and the Scottish Government accountable and ensure support is provided to every student who needs it. Vote Jed Miller for a President who knows the stakes and will never back down.

Candidates for Vice-President Welfare
Mary O'Driscoll

I genuinely care and take action. From my work over this academic year, housing and food insecurity, alongside inadequate support for physical or mental health issues, appear to be the most pressing issues. I intend to continue my close work with the Students’ Association, the Wellbeing Team, the college EDI lead, the LDTs, and - most importantly - with students, to make meaningful changes that improve student quality of life.

I also know how much a sense of community impacts students' mental wellbeing so I'll be offering events for better mental and physical health, whilst improving community-building opportunities at student societies.
