The main duties of the President include:
- Working with Class Reps and attending Class Rep meetings
- Working with the other Full-Time Officers across all four campuses on academic and student support issues
- Working with the National Union of Students to represent students at a national level
- Supporting & developing students to empower them to be engaged with EC Students' Association
- Growing links with external organisations and campaigns linked directly to student experience
- Consulting with students on current issues facing them and developing solutions to the benefit of students
- Sitting on the Edinburgh College Board of management and leadership committees to ensure that students are at the centre of decisions
- Updating the Board of Management and team through verbal and written reports
- Representing the Association and students when attending external events
- Being an active member of the EC Students' Association Board of Trustees, to ensure the Association is student-led and focussed on our strategic objectives
Priority Objectives for 2025-26
- National campaigns to improve Edinburgh College students' lives
To take an active role in representing Edinburgh College students at a national level and involving EC students in national campaigns, influencing key decision makers and politicians on key areas including:
- Student and College Sector Funding
- Affordable and good quality Housing
- Investment in Student Mental Health Support
- Reverse Shadowing 3.0
Building on 1.0, 2.0… 3.0, to invite other Students' Associations and Unions to spend time with ECSA for a day, to share best practice between institutions in order to improve the student voice at a national level and to create better understanding between colleges and between colleges and universities.
- Lead Rep Forum
Establish a new Forum for Lead Reps in order to enhance the effectiveness of student representation on campus at a Departmental level, strengthening the student voice across the College academic departments.
