This week our student officers Neal, Beth, and Cameron and our staff team have been busy helping new and returning students get started at college.

Working with the college's Learning Development Tutors, we've been helping students get their computer accounts set up and logged onto the student portal and Moodle - the college's virtual learning environment where coursework is kept.

As well as that, we've been asking students to complete our questionnaire, which will give us really useful information on what sports and activities are most popular, travel data on student journeys to college, as well as allowing students to get more information on liberation groups for LGBT students, women, disabled students, and black students.

We're also looking forward to Freshers' Week beginning on Monday 4th September as we hold our annual fair across the college campuses. We've got a range of organisations coming in to give you the best offers and information to help you with get on with student life. Look out for some tasty treats!

After that, we'll be running Sports and Activities week, a first for Edinburgh College. We'll be signing students up for sports clubs and trying to get students signed up to get societies started. As well as that, we'll be promoting ECSA Active membership, which allows students to get access to College gyms at Granton and Sighthill for £40 per year.

Electing Class Reps is our next task, starting later in September. Each class will elect two reps, who'll be trained up to represent their class at our Class Rep conferences and with lecturers from your curriculum area at course team review meetings. We'll be working with LDTs to try and visit as many classes as possible. Look out for more details and a snazzy video coming soon!

I'd like to extend a very warm welcome to all our new students, and congratulate everyone who's progressed onto the next level of their course. We look forward to working with you this year to make your time at Edinburgh College the best it can be, so if you have an idea or need some help to make it better, just get in touch.

Neal Black, ECSA President
