We're delighted to share the news that Edinburgh College Students' Associtaion has been awarded over £190,000 as part of the Scottish Government's Climate Challenge Fund (CCF) to run another climate change project from 2020-2022. This project will offer free support to help Edinburgh College students to travel more sustainably, and to reduce their food and textile waste. Project activities will include cycle training and bike maintenance workshops, a liftshare scheme, a Community Fridge at each campus, and swap-shop events. The project will increase understanding of climate change by running workshops in class time and providing opportunities to develop sustainability skills through extracurricular and voluntary activities.
In April 2018 ECSA was awarded funding from CCF to run our current Go Green low-carbon travel project. This project is now coming to an end, and has been highly successful - we have engaged with over 1200 students and achieved our carbon-reduction targets more than twice over. Our new project will continue some of the strands of our original project, as well as expanding into new areas of waste reduction work. Our aim is to create a culture of resource-sharing amongst students at the college, in order to reduce waste and increase climate literacy.
For now we are still finishing up with our current project, but we will post updates about the new project once it's fully kicked off! If you would like to hear more about our plans for the next project, don't hesitate to get in touch with us on go.green@ecsa.scot.
