We don’t know about you but we are glad it’s the February break! We know many of you aren’t doing so great at the moment, but, we hope this week you’re taking some time to take a proper break.

Throughout the week we’ll be sharing some top tips about taking some time out but we also want to hear from you about how you’re doing and what’s helping you through these tough times. And, throughout the week we'll be giving out a number of £25 vouchers to Zero Waste Stores, so keep your eyes peeled!!

Take a Break: Get Outside

Taking time out to be in nature has proven mental health benefits, as do methods of active travel (walking, cycling, wheeling, scooting, etc). This February Break what local green spaces you are visiting? Are you heading to your favourite place or visiting a new one?

Share your favourite green space you’ve visited over the break in our Virtual Campus and you’ll be entered into our competition to win a £25 voucher for a Zero Waste Store. Winners will be announced on the Monday 15th February.

Take a Break: Create a Nest

Spending a lot more time at home means spending a lot of time in one space, so it’s important to create a good nest or space you enjoy. Why not take some time over the break to create a space you can work or relax in.

Maybe creating your space also involves having a bit of a spring clean and finding items you don’t want/ need anymore? If you’ve got items you don’t need, why not find them a new home? If you want them gone asap check out this great Reuse Map - showing you where you can reuse, repair and recycle things across edinburgh.

Or, if you can save them for later, you can donate them to our swapshop once we’re back on campus.

Take a Break: Check In

There are SO MANY ways to take a break! If you haven’t had a chance to take a break yet, there’s no better day than a Wellbeing Wednesday.

Today, just check in with yourself. How are you doing?

Lots of us aren't feeling great at the moment and that's okay. But, remember if you are struggling there are lots of ways to get support. For more information about where to get help go to our Wellbeing Hub. Or, if you're looking for 1-2-1 support head to the College Wellbeing Hub.

After the college break, why not join Rose, our VP Welfare for a Wellbeing Wednesday chat? They are every Wednesday at 4pm from Wednesday 24th February.

Take a Break: Get Cooking

Taking time out to cook is another way to boost your mental health. Why not get creative and try a new recipe? Or feel accomplished and recreate an old favourite that’s a bit harder?

It’s also a great way to connect with someone else. Can you cook with someone else you live with? Or can you connect with someone by cooking the same recipe together online?

If you’re looking for a new recipe why not check out our Zero Waste Cooking Series for some sustainable cooking inspiration!

Share what you’ve been cooking this week in our Virtual Campus and you’ll be entered into our competition to win a £25 voucher for a Zero Waste Store. Winners will be announced on the Thursday 18th February.

Take a Break: Nominate

Do you know what your plans are after you finish College? Nominations are now open for the best job you’ll ever have. All Edinburgh College students are eligible to stand for election and there are three roles available; President, VP Activities and VP Welfare. All roles are 35 hours a week for 1 year starting in July 2021 and paid £17,500.

All the information you need is on the Election Hub, and you can always just get in touch directly if you want more information. If you think you know someone who would be a great full-time officer, you can refer them through the Election Hub and they’ll get a personalised email encouraging them to stand in the election!
