Come and join us for Purple Friday!
What is Purple Friday?
The last Friday in the month of February is known as Purple Friday. It's a day to stand against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia and to show our support for the LGBTI community. The first Purple Friday was celebrated in Canada in 2010!
What is the theme this year?
Every year Purple Friday has a different theme. This year it's to show your support of being a Cataylst as it's been 50 years of activism. It marks the anniversary of the Stonewall uprisings in New York in 1969 and the birth of the modern pride movement. A catalyst is to show your full support of standing for equality and inclusion. Also helping to make Scotland the best place for LGBTI communities.
What we are doing to celebrate?
We are hosting stalls at the Granton Campus in the hub area and Sighthill Campus in the street on Friday 22nd February between 11am and 2pm. We will be having information leaflets on display as well as a range of flags on display for representation of different groups. We will be launching an opportunity for all students on the day to sign our pledge to show your support for being a catalyst. On the stall we'll have cakes that you can purchase for a small donation.
What other ways can I get involved?
You can also support Purple Friday by following #LGBTCatalyst on social media. By tagging your friends in posts on social media using this hashtag, it encourages them to be a cataylst for supporting LGBTI people.
