February: Heart Health Month
Show Your Heart Some Love! ❤️

As February rolls in, it’s time to turn our attention to one of the most important aspects of our well-being—our heart health.

At Edinburgh College, we’re committed to promoting healthy lifestyles, and this Heart Health Month, we want to share some valuable tips to help you take care of your heart.

Here’s how you can show your heart some love:

1. Nourish Your Heart with a Healthy Diet 🍏

What you eat plays a vital role in keeping your heart strong! Fuel your body with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, while cutting down on saturated fats, trans fats, and added sugars. Adding heart-friendly foods like oily fish (rich in omega-3), nuts, seeds, and avocados can do wonders for your cardiovascular health.

For students on the go, Edinburgh College offers nutritious meal options at Gather & Gather and in our welcoming canteens, where the team works hard to provide healthy choices that cater to all dietary needs! 🥗🍽️

2. Get Moving & Stay Active 🏃‍♂️

Exercise is one of the best ways to keep your heart healthy! Aim for at least two and a half hours of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise each week—whether it’s a brisk walk, cycling, dancing, or swimming. Staying active helps improve circulation, lower blood pressure, and maintain a healthy weight.

Why not make fitness fun? Join one of Edinburgh College’s fitness classes or pop up activities to stay motivated! There’s always something happening—check out EC Active Campus Instagram page for updates. 💪🎾🚴

3. Manage Stress & Prioritize Your Well-being 🧘‍♀️

Did you know stress can affect your heart health? That’s why it’s important to find ways to unwind. Try deep breathing, meditation, yoga, or even just taking breaks to connect with friends and do things you love.

Need extra support? Edinburgh College Wellbeing Team offers mental health resources, including counselling services, to help you manage stress and maintain balance in your life. You’re never alone—we’re here for you. 💙

4. Prevention is always better than cure

Regular check-ups with your healthcare provider are vital for monitoring your heart health, especially if you have risk factors like a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. Make sure to get your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood sugar checked regularly. Utilise your time!

5. Laugh, Have Fun & Make Memories!

The best kind of health and happiness comes from laughing your heart out and having an amazing time! 🎉 So why not join us this February break on Thursday, the 13th for an awesome event at Sighthill.

Get ready for fun games, snacks and food, and loads of exciting activities—all designed to make your day unforgettable! Bring your friends, meet new people, and most importantly, have a blast - this is the type of event that can only add to your cup.

I’ll be there with the rest of the team, and we can’t wait to see you too! 😃🎈 #GoodVibesOnly & you can register now :)
