EC Students’ Association is run by a team of elected students, also known as full-time officers. Every year we run elections to vote for a new team, and that’s why we need you!

We are here to represent all students across the four campuses of Edinburgh College, which has to be open to change in order to meet the needs of our ever-evolving student community.

Soon we will host our annual Edinburgh College wide vote to elect 3 Full-Time Officers. These 3 officers become the leaders of the Students’ Association and will spend a year working full-time to represent students and improve the experience at Edinburgh College. It’s a fantastic opportunity to take a stand and influence change for students. It’s also a chance to have a rewarding and flexible job where you can develop lots of transferable skills.

Here’s what our current officers have to say to convince you:

2022/23 VP Activities Luna said:

“Being part of EC Students’ Association is such a unique and eye opening experience with no two days the same.  Representing all students regardless of who they are, is as daunting as it is fulfilling, and I would do it forever if it could.”

2022/23 VP Welfare Skye said:

“Working for EC Students’ Association has been one of the hardest but most rewarding things I've ever done. It has pushed me to tackle things I never thought I could do, but knowing you're making real change for students is an experience and opportunity you just can't replace.”

2022/23 President David said:

“The position of being a student officer at Edinburgh College is a really rewarding one.  The sense of satisfaction that no other job brings. Not two days are the same, one day you can be sitting in meetings all day making decisions that are going to affect the college for the next 5 to 10 years, the next you can be giving as much free stuff away as you have to give to students.  There is also the other side of the job, supporting students on matters be it personal or matters relating to their studies.  The job requires a lot of commitment and you get the satisfaction back from what you do after helping students and making that change to the student experience, I truly love my job and wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Each of the 3 Full-Time Officers have a remit they work on, but they also have the freedom to come up with projects that they believe would change the student experience. The President focuses on Education, our VP Activities works toward setting up societies and activities for students and VP Welfare works with the college to ensure good student mental health and supports our equalities groups.

The elected officers take office on the 3rd of July and will remain in post for the full year, working 35 hours a week at £19,838 per year.

There are two main phases to the election process:

  • During the nomination period: you come up with the reasons why students should vote for you, you’ll submit your nomination form
  • During the voting period: you’ll campaign for students to vote for you, they’ll vote for the candidates they want to be elected, then we’ll announce the results
