Adam Lowe | ECSA

Adam Lowe

Position: President
Name:
Adam Lowe
Status: Hopeful
What are your top three priorities?:

I am running for a second term of being ECSAs President because I believe with all my experience that I have gathered in the past year the trajectory and speed of my continuing and new objectives will only be stronger in 2025 and 2026. My objectives will be a combination of internal and external campaigning so I can create a huge influence over the college and give the student body what they want.I want to increase Edinburgh College Students Associations influence on national movements and campaigns that are happening at the moment to fight for every right that students might be affected by.

To name some: The Student Housing Crisis, Access to mental health support, and Student poverty, all affecting many students in their day to day lives. With my experience of networking and liasing with other Student Associations and learning how to campaign I believe I can be a strong front for your rights as a student.

I want to keep building the all new Lead Rep scheme - since it was devised by me I believe I can find new ways of making it more engaging, broadening the scope of its impact and evolve it into something far bigger and embedded it into the Colleges systems of Governance. This is a vital system that will make the students' voice louder than ever and impossible to ignore in Edinburgh College. And once again the direction of the scheme will be decided by students giving them more power in their learning.

I want to work with the ones who truly have the influence and resource to change the campuses appearances, facilities and social areas and for myself to be a vessel through the rep system, through the lead rep programme to shape the college in the way that students want and need, to make their overall experience better and to make themselves successful in Further and Higher Education. The direction should be decided by students and that is what I hope I can create.

What do you want to change that would improve the student experience?:

I believe that campus appearance, facilities and social areas have a huge influence on the overall Student experience. The youth of this time that are in Higher and Further Education can endure hardships that are beyond belief and still be successful. So surely with the added affect of improving facilities and social areas will only increase success and satisfaction in their experience? We all know that the campuses have been looking a little tired recently and it's times we inject some life into it.

I believe that having a strong and embedded communication and representation system is vital to improving and understanding the levels of satisfaction in student experience.

The Lead Rep programme has opened a new world to the Senior Management of information and feedback. Providing us with a clear direction in where to move forward and I believe since I started it, I am the best candidate for developing it and growing it into something far more influential within our college. Also external problems like access to mental health support within educational institutions and outside of them, during what is a mental health crisis after the pandemic and countless lecturer strikes.

Or the housing crisis with accomodation and rent going up another ridiculous percentage every year and making it impossibe to; live alone, live while doing full time education and to keep yourself warm in the winter time.

We have helped with this slightly with continuation of the community fridge and the swap shop but we must do more to ensure students are living their experience to the maximum at the college, and that is why I believe I should begin using my platform and experience of being student president to campaign for those things.

Please describe in 50 words or less why students should vote for you:

Vote for me and I will be the first ECSA President to stay in the President role for a second term for the past two years. I have created good working relationships with senior management and therefore could provide an good area of consistency and continuity.
