What’s it like to be a Full Time Officer?

Ahead of our 2023 Elections, we caught up with Rose Dodgson about her time at ECSA. Rose was Vice President Welfare (2020-21) and then ECSA President (2021-22)

Why did you run to be a Full Time Officer?

I  was studying HNC Working with Communities so felt this was a great opportunity to work with the student community and was interested in making positive improvements on behalf of College students.

How has being an officer helped you to where you are now?

It was a great experience and I learnt so much! It really helped to build my confidence and l leant so much about working with both the College and other officers to make positive changes for students.

What are your proudest achievements?

My proudest achievement was adapting to the new circumstances brought on by Covid lockdowns and advocating for students struggling during the past two years of restrictions. It was really important for students to have their issues heard nationally and pushing for extra funding for help with mental wellbeing and access to digital devices when students were having to study from home.

Have you got any advice for anyone considering running in the election?

You should absolutely go for it! Just be yourself and ask your classmates and other students what issues they are facing in their studies. Its a great way to build a manifesto and to get to know your fellow Edinburgh College students.
