Here at EC Students' Association we have teamed up with the Edinburgh Food Project and the Trussell Trust to become collection sites for their Food Banks.
Each campus will have a collection point at reception where you can donate dry goods that will then be collected and made up into food parcels. The local food banks rely on goodwill and support. Some of our own within the College might be receiving that support too, so when you are doing your weekly shop, if you are able, add an extra couple of tins of soup or packets of pasta into your trolley. These will go a long way to help others that are unable to purchase food themselves.
Items that the food banks accept are;
Rice/Pasta
Long Life Milk
Soup/Beans
Jam
Ready Meals
Biscuits/Sweets/Chocolate
Tea/Coffee/Hot Chocolate (Powder)/Sugar
Shampoo/shower Gel
Tooth Paste
Tinned Deserts
Cereals
Household Cleaning Products
Tinned Cold Meat
Tinned Hot Meals
There is so much stigma around using food banks, so we are hoping to change that by bringing to light all the amazing work they do for the community. There are lots of other services that food banks offer as well, therefore it's not just a service that’s there to support people in a food crisis. They provide a whole host of other services including debt advice, mental health support and benefits guidance to help people resolve some of the problems they are facing. We aim to help as many people as possible within the College and the community with these Food Bank Donation Drop-Off Points, and so we are very grateful for any donations that you are able to make.
