Hello from your new Student Officers | ECSA

Hello from your new Student Officers

Adam Lowe - President

I have always been the quiet little guy, so taking on this role is a very new experience and responsibility for me. But I believe I will be a good fit for the job because recently due to me being quiet and reserved, I’m now very passionate and at the forefront of my opinions and idealistic thoughts. I believe that I can use this to my advantage and create a strong presence for the student body in Edinburgh College.

In the last year I left High School and decided to follow my passion of art in a Foundation art course, I loved this course but I couldn't help but see all the ways my learning experience could be improved. You see, I'm from Peebles High School and in November 2019 my school had a detrimental fire causing our education to be compromised, worse enough this was my first proper exam year which was then compromised even more because returned to the half burned school in February 2020....and we all know what happened after that. However, during lockdown I created my passion project which was a spy novel, while making this I explored many aspects about myself.

My patience, my determination and my talent (which I have difficulty realising because of crippling imposter syndrome), all of these were realised in the making of this book. I began writing it when I was 14 and published it when I was 17 which put me into a very selected group. Ever since then I've been working on a sequel which has surpassed 60,000 words putting me past 'Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone'. I discovered just how determined I am to complete tasks and projects no matter the cost, this asset of mine is so powerful that I feel terrible and slightly sick if I don't get something finished or completed, this is an asset and drive that will make me a good president.

A part of my strategy this year is to use a Japanese philosophy called 'Kaizen'. The synopsis of 'Kaizen' is to change for the better or continuous improvement, it is the spirit that drives Japanese workers constantly to utter and complete perfection. I believe having a drive like this will create a more efficient and profound effect on our college, just because something may work doesn't mean it can't be improved or bettered for the greater good.

I am very excited to apply my working methods and to work as a student officer to better Edinburgh College!

Caitlin Whitson - VP Activities

Hi! My name is Caitlin and I’m your new Vice President of Activities with ECSA.

Before taking on this new role, I was a music student at Sighthill and recently achieved my HND.

I am autistic and have a unique approach to how I do things and think. This also means I am incredibly passionate about the things I care about, including LGBTQ+ issues, supporting neurodivergent students and improving the sense of community at college. A lot of these passions started from my experience in high school, where I navigated life as a late diagnosed autistic person, young queer person and someone who generally stood out from the crowd and walked to the beat of their own drum.

I was keen to become VP Activities as during my two years of studying at Edinburgh College I was really involved in the Student Association, from being a class rep to taking part in events that they run. I have also taken on other community centric roles before, I have been a leader with the Girl Guides as well as helping with coaching at my hockey club.

I am really excited to be working as a student officer at Edinburgh College and can't wait to meet everyone at our Freshers Fair in September!

Sukinder Landa - VP Welfare

Hello! I’m Sukinder Landa, and I am delighted to serve as your Vice President of Welfare at ECSA.

Before stepping into this role, I studied Digital Design and Software Development at Edinburgh College. This course allowed me to develop a strong foundation in both creative and technical skills, which I am excited to apply in my new position.

During my time at Edinburgh College, I have been actively involved in various student initiatives, always striving to enhance the overall student experience. My background in digital design and software development has given me a unique perspective on problem-solving and innovation, which I plan to utilize to improve our college's welfare services.

As your VP Welfare, my primary goal is to ensure that every student feels supported, valued, and heard. I will communicate this to the staff and make the positive changes we need at Edinburgh College for all students. I am particularly passionate about mental health advocacy, creating inclusive environments, and fostering a sense of community among students. My commitment to these values stems from my own experiences as a student, where I witnessed the profound impact of a supportive and inclusive educational environment.

I am excited to work alongside Adam, Caitlin, and the rest of the team to make Edinburgh College a place where every student can thrive. Together, we will strive for continuous improvement and make positive changes that benefit everyone.

I look forward to working with you all and making a meaningful impact on our college community and its future.
