Have Your Say: Edinburgh College Cuts Counselling Service

Due to a withdrawal of funding from the Scottish Government, Edinburgh College will no longer provide free in-person counselling to students from next term.

We know this is deeply concerning. Mental health support is essential, and the removal of this service may leave many students without the help they need—potentially increasing drop-out rates and worsening wellbeing.

While it’s unlikely the decision will be reversed in the short term—as budgets for next year are largely set—we believe it’s still vital that student voices are heard. We want to gather your views on this change, and understand what you expect from your college in terms of mental health support.

This survey is your opportunity to share how this decision affects you, what kind of support you think should be available, and how Edinburgh College and the Scottish Government can better respond to student needs in future.

This anonymous survey is a chance for you to share how this decision impacts you, what support you believe should be in place, and how Edinburgh College and the Scottish Government can better meet student needs going forward.

Your voice matters, even if you haven’t used the counselling service.
