Welcome from Skye

Skye Marriner, Vice President Welfare

Hi, I’m Skye (she/her), this year's Vice President Welfare!

First things first, let's just get this out of the way. I'm Autistic, I also have ADHD so I can come across as quite strong sometimes, but I’d like to think I’m a lot of fun! I talk wayyy too much and often go on crazy ramblings, but it’s all part of my charm.

Now some of you might recognise me (you probably won’t) from my climate work as the past 4 years of my life have been dedicated to fighting for climate justice. My work with Fridays for Future Scotland is some of my proudest, including making history and working with Greta Thunberg herself! I’m always down to be your protest buddy if you should ever need one. Finally, after 4 empowering years I think I’m ready to put my placards on the back burner and tackle a new adventure.

So why am I here? Well, I put myself forward to be an EC Students’ Association officer because I feel like my experiences in life have led me to helping other people. I grew up a young carer, and while looking after my mother I was getting extremely bullied, which then led to struggling with my mental health and a bit of a downward slope, but, with that being said, I don’t see any of this as a weakness. I actually use it as an opportunity to educate others and fight the stigma of not speaking about the things that aren’t “pretty”.

I’m a very open person, and if you ever want to rant about your annoying best friend, or talk about the person you’re completely in love with, just come to the office and find me, I’m always down for a coffee and a chat!

Now enough about me! I hope this year we can really reconnect as a college and make some amazing friends, memories and opportunities!

Skye 😊
