Bus

Lothian Buses have multiple services that stop near all four of the Edinburgh College campuses. Take a look at their student guide here to find which is the best route for you. They also have phone apps to help you plan your route and track the progress of your bus.

A single ticket is £2.00, and a Day Ticket (for unlimited bus journeys in a day) is £5.00. Lothian Buses have recently introduced contactless payments; all you need to do is tap your card or phone every time you board the bus. If you use contactless, your payments will automatically be capped at £5.00 - so you don't need to decide whether to buy a single or a day ticket at the start of the day. Just tap your payment device as many times as you use the bus, and you will automatically get the best value. More info on the contactless service can be found here.

You can also pay using cash, but change is not given, so make sure you have the exact amount!

If you anticipate using the bus on a regular basis, it may be worth buying a 'Ridacard' season ticket. The pricing for these can be seen below - including a student 9-month advance purchase card for £500, (only available to set up in September and October). These are set up through Lothian Buses Travelshops, located on Waverley Bridge and Shandwick Place.

If you are under 22, you are eligible for free bus travel in Scotland. Find out more at https://ecsa.scot/2022/01/free-bus-travel-under-22s

Tram

If you are travelling to Sighthill campus, there is also the option of taking the tram. Lothian Bus Ridacards can be used on the trams, as long as you activate your card on the tram platform before you board. If you don’t have a ridacard, you can also buy City Zone tickets (£2.00 for a single) on the platform before you travel. More information about the trams is available on the Edinburgh Trams website.

Below is a copy of the tram route map - for Sighthill campus you should get off at Bankhead, which is a few minutes walk from the campus.

Trains

Both our Midlothian and Milton Road campuses are within a five minute walk of a local train station. Midlothian campus is by the Eskbank train station, and Milton Road is by the Brunstane station. Sighthill campus is also approximately a 15 minute walk from the Edinburgh Park station.

ScotRail have information about season tickets on their website here.
